#1
BREEDING AND SHEARING
Angora goats are reared in special conditions to ensure the quality of their fleece. Shearing, which takes place twice a year, is carried out with care to avoid damaging the delicate fibres.

#2
FIBRE SELECTION
After shearing, the fibres are sorted according to length, colour and texture. The longest and finest fibres are generally chosen to obtain the highest quality mohair.

#3
CLEANING AND WASHING
The fibres are then cleaned to remove impurities such as dirt and grease. Gentle washing preserves the natural softness of mohair.

#4
CARDING AND COMBING
The fibres are carded to align them in the same direction, then combed to create uniform, silky strands.

#5
SPINNING
The mohair strands are spun to create yarns of different thicknesses. These yarns can then be dyed in a variety of vibrant colours.

Be gentle with this natural fibre: wash by hand or use the cold wool cycle on the washing machine. Use gentle detergent, turn the mohair garment inside out and put it in a net bag to protect it from the drum. Dry this fabric away from heat to preserve the colour, and flat to keep its shape. Don't iron mohair (to stop it lustering). However, you can use steam to get the creases out.
