TYPES OF WOOL
Different breeds of sheep and other animals produce wool fibres with different characteristics. Some wools are finer and softer, like merino wool, while others are stronger and more resistant.

ADVANTAGES
Wool has exceptional insulating properties, making it an ideal option for winter clothing. It is also resistant to moisture and odours, and can regulate body temperature.

#1
SHEARING
The first stage in wool production involves shearing the animals to recover their fleece. The quality of the wool depends largely on the breed of animal and the way it is cared for.

#2
SORTING
Once the wool has been harvested, it is sorted to remove impurities, unwanted hairs and pieces of vegetation.

#3
WASHING
The wool is then washed to remove dirt, grease and other contaminants. This process can be carried out with hot or cold water, depending on the intended use of the wool.

#4
CARDING
The washed wool is carded to align the fibres and make them ready for spinning. This process produces a softer, more uniform wool.

#5
SPINNING
The carded fibres are spun into wool yarn. These can be used as they are or dyed to create a variety of colours.
